The men said to him, “Where is Sarah your wife?”
He said, “In the tent.”
One of them said, “I’m coming back about this time next year. When I arrive, your wife Sarah will have a son.” Sarah was listening at the tent opening, just behind the man.
Abraham and Sarah were old by this time, very old. Sarah was far past the age for having babies. Sarah laughed within herself, “An old woman like me? Get pregnant? With this old man of a husband?”
Genesis 18:9-12

Recently as we raced to get to school on time the question was raised of how long five minutes is. I explained that 5 minutes to get to school when you’re hitting every red light on Lake Ave is a bit nerve wracking but 5 minutes when you really have to go to the bathroom is an eternity. After sliding Alipio into the gate just as the bell rang I thought back to some of my classes where the clock could not have moved more slowly but how I also couldn’t wrap my mind around the fact that I have a child in first grade. Time is a fascinating force of life that rarely feels as constant as it actually is. There are times of tremendous grief or fear when time cannot pass quickly enough and others when you see it changing those you love and you wish you could just hit pause.
Even though they may not have known how old they were, Sarah and Abraham were very aware of time. They had been married for years, their hair was turning gray, their shoulders beginning to droop and yet they had no child. God had told Abraham his descendants would be as great at the stars in the sky and the grains of sand in the desert yet, here Abraham stood looking at the Arabian desert, his tent silent and empty. Sarah had long felt her days had passed and when visitors told her that she would give birth in a year, Sarah laughed. Impossible. One year later, as the older couple stood looking at endless grains of sand as Sarah held Isaac in her arms.
Today we are hyper sensitive to time and we allow it to dictate ever painfully intimate detail of our lives. It tells us when to sleep, when to eat, when to kiss, when to panic, when to stop brushing. Not only does time tell us stuff like when to buy a new mattress it tells us how much we get paid and how quickly we should have accomplished something. Because it has so much power over our lives, we forget that time has no power over God. Even though we often have thoughts that tells us something should have happened by now or that we have run out of time, we can’t allow time to overrule or overthrow our faith. Our God is bigger, all knowing and all loving and therefore, despite what our timelines and deadlines determine, God the one who should determine the content and the course of our lives.

The evolution of demonic possession that live within those woods have created a darkness that will leave with you, sleep with you and dream with you.
