Katharine “Kit” Johnston
b Aug. 6, 1929 – d March 20, 2017
If you were at Saint Edmund’s in the 70’s you would have met this delightful, full of energy soul, her husband, Jerry, ( who worked at Security Pacific Bank) and their children Jennifer and Alex. Jerry was Senior Warden at some point, and Kit was elbow to elbow with the rest of us on the Table Fashions Teas and church dinners. I still remember tripling her Pumpkin Bread recipe and baking it in the existing oven!
She earned a Master’s in Social work from USC, after raising the children, and used her license well in giving of her talents to disabled children. She and Jerry lived in many different countries during their 60 years together, but they always saved time for their beloved Chebeague Island in Maine. Kit, who reminded me of Katherine Hepburn, will always be one of my favorite mentors. – Juliette B Quinn
