Born in St. Louis, MO, Michael Jones studied theology at Eden Theological Seminary and earned his Master of Divinity at Wesley Theological Seminary prior to doctoral studies in Philosophy at Georgetown University, American University, Catholic University and St. Louis University, where he also taught Philosophy.

Upon relocation to Southern California he developed educational programs for children in challenged communities, contracted by three Cal State Universities to design and organize community engagement and service learning programs.

Michael Jones was married to Tiffany Cheung at St. Edmund’s in 2002, and they have one son.

Deeply read in Christian spirituality and in the source writings of the Christian mystics, Michael explored the lay-monastic movement, attracted to the expression of monastic disciplines in a family context. He became an Associate of the Order of the Holy Cross in 2014 taking vows as a Lay Monk, receiving his monastic name: Brother Michael Manley Hopkins Jones. On Easter that same year, Michael was consecrated at St. Edmund’s to live out his calling as a Lay Monk, devoted to a ministry of prayer for the people and endeavors of St. Edmund’s Parish.
