St Edmund's Episcopal Church San Marino

The Third Sunday of Easter, April 30th, 2017

In the gospels, Jesus spends a lot of time socializing at meals. In fact, the author of our study book this Lent, Adam Hamilton, concludes that if you’re looking for a description of heaven, the best biblical explanation may be a banquet.

This summer, talented hosts around our parish again will invite us closer to heaven by providing a variety of teas, brunches and suppers which bring us together in fellowship.

These are magical summer events when you can make a new friend, when you can have a satisfying conversation.

Did I mention the food? People share the most delightful dishes. But most profoundly, as St. Paul observes in his first letter to the Corinthians, church meals are less about nutrition, and much more about fellowship, created and shared around the table.

If this will be your first summer participating in St. Edmund’s Summer Socials, here are my suggestions:

1.Come enjoy the Summer Social Kickoff Party on Saturday, May 13 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, when our heavenly host is Mike Mathis at 1166 Mill Lane, in San Marino (next to The Old Mill).

2.Look for Summer Social signup sheets at church, and note when in the summer you are available.

3.Invite interested friends to come with you. On a summer evening, you’re showing them St. Edmund’s at its most inviting.

4.Contact Nancy Dini, ncgbos@aol.com, our coordinator, to let us know of your interest in attending, and in hosting a Summer Social. Nancy has a marvelous ministry in hospitality!

Children are welcome! Many of our hosts have pools and wonderful backyards for running with other young ones. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Nancy Dini.

The lessons appointed for April 30, 2017, the Third Sunday of Easter, are here.
