St Edmund's Episcopal Church San Marino

The First Sunday After Epiphany, January 11th, 2015

Eastern Orthodox Christians observed Christmas on January 6th (having not adopted the Gregorian Calendar in 1582) and Western Christians celebrated the Feast of the Epiphany…the Manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles. When this Feast falls further from a Sunday, as it did on Tuesday last week, it often receives less attention than it ought, and perhaps because we’re all just tired.

Parish Youth have a terrific opportunity this coming Sunday to spend some time with a young psychologist of my long acquaintance by the name of Tom Badzey as he helpfully engages successful communication. Youth will gather with Tom at 8:45am to 9:45am in the Youth Room.

Youth Confirmation Classes with the Rector also re-commence this coming Sunday after Church at 11:30am to 1pm (Lunch provided) in the Youth Room, where Youth are free to practice Tom Badzey’s newly imparted communication skills in discussion. We’ll tackle the idea of God’s Self-Disclosure, and the peculiarities of the Christian experience of God this class and will have that all wrapped up in no time!

Please note the new Winter/Spring Youth Schedule, and mark your calendars for Parenting Class (also this coming Sunday at 7pm in the Library).

The Paris attack on free speech isn’t the most auspicious beginning of the New Year we’ve seen. Hold all this before God with care-filled heart.

On a brighter note, these 80 degree days are surely reminders of the blessed space we inhabit, and reason for gratitude.

A Blessed Epiphanytide,
