As I return with gladness to parish life following sabbatical, my first duty is to share with you this news from Sylvia and Colville Smythe, who have served St. Edmund’s so profoundly well these past nine years, and have loved us so completely.

Dear Friends,
With full hearts, we want you to know that at the end of 2017 we will move to the Phoenix area. We will be following Sylvia’s family, and most important we will be sailing into life’s next phase for us. The adventures we anticipate include a new house with a smaller garden, time for Colville to write his novel, new neighbors, and a reset on Sylvia’s community involvement. The price we are paying is separation from so much we love: a church which nurtures and enlivens us, with a rector whom we treasure and you friends whom we care for so deeply. When we have more information we will share it with you. Meantime, we remain fully involved, as we have been. We are grateful for every day with you: days which have brought us close to you here, and these days still remaining in which we share God’s abiding love.
