St Edmund's Episcopal Church San Marino

THE FIRST SUNDAY IN LENT, March 5th, 2017

Betsy Crockett reminds us that Huntington Drive will be closed to traffic next Sunday, though a vehicle crossing point is established at San Gabriel Boulevard. You may wish to plot your route to Church as you observe the First Sunday in Lent. The map is HERE.

Our last Epiphany Hurrah comes on Shrove Tuesday as Karen Harrigian and her Team serve pancakes hot off the griddle 5:30pm – 7pm. RSVP’s aren’t essential but are always nice (isabelroa@aol.com)!

We begin Lent with Ash Wednesday services (see below) and, on Sunday morning, with the Great Litany sung in Procession at both liturgies.

Your Vestry enjoyed a productive working Retreat last Saturday, with spiritual direction provided by Mother Judy and excellent afternoon working groups facilitated by Senior Warden Sylvia Smythe. The Vestry elected Steve Rolfe as Junior Warden.

LEAVE-TAKING PRAYERS were offered for Cheryl and Gary Mendoza last Sunday as they depart St. Edmund’s for their new life in Orlando, Florida. Cheryl and Gary exercised a strong ministry of hospitality in our midst on Sunday mornings and all special events. The Rector presented them with the St. Edmund’s paper-weight and a gift card, and the Sunday School children presented hand-made cards, and a special stone on which they had inscribed a quote from Joshua 1:9 “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
