Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with Praise! Give thanks to God and bless God's name. Psalm 100:4

All in person services at St. Edmund’s, including our 9 AM Sunday Services, are currently suspended until further notice. Please pray for all those afflicted by the pandemic, their loved ones, and those who labor to care for them.

Brother Michael Manley Hopkins Jones

Born in St Louis, MO, Michael Jones studied theology at Eden Theological Seminary and earned his MDiv at Wesley Theological Seminary prior to doctoral studies in Philosophy at Georgetown University, American University, Catholic University and St Louis University where he also taught Philosophy.

A teaching grant brought him to California where he became involved in educational programs for children in communities of challenge.  After the success of his literacy program funded by the Los Angeles Times “Reading By 9”, the Community Development Commission contracted him to oversee all of their non-traditional education programs.  Michael was contracted by three Cal State Universities to design and organize their community engagement and service learning programs. Michael Jones was married to Tiffany Cheung at St. Edmund’s in 2002, and they have one son, Ian.

Deeply read in Christian spirituality, and in the source writings of the Christian mystics, Michael explored the growing lay-monastic movement, and was attracted to living out the monastic disciplines in the context of family joys and duties.  He became an Associate of the Order of the Holy Cross in 2014 taking vows as a Lay Monk, and taking a monastic name, Brother Michael Manley Hopkins Jones.  On Easter of that same year, Brother Michael was consecrated at St Edmund’s to live out his calling as a Lay Monk, devoted to a ministry of prayer for the people and endeavors of St Edmund’s Parish.

Brother Michael is available for spiritual direction and consultation. A 2005 accident left Br Michael with physical challenges that give him particular insight into the uses of prayer and meditation in pain management.

Those who may wish to consider spiritual direction with Brother Michael may contact the parish office.
