To Musicians in the Diocese,
The Rev. Canon John Taylor will be consecrated as bishop coadjutor of the Diocese of Los Angeles on July 8, 2017 at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles. The service will begin at 1:30 p.m.
We are planning to assemble a mass choir for this service. We anticipate having a choir of 100 people, and would like to have approximately 25 voices per section.
I invite all of you who would like to participate in this service to consider volunteering for this very special event. We will have four rehearsals prior to the event at the Cathedral Center in Echo Park – June 10, 17, 24, and July 1, 2017. Each rehearsal will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude at 12 noon. There will be NO rehearsal on the day of the consecration, so we ask that you commit to attending at least three of the four rehearsals at the Cathedral Center (located at 840 Echo Park Avenue, Los Angeles).
The call time for the July 8 service will be 12 noon. Parking at the Music Center is $9 per car; we suggest carpooling as much as possible.
The music for this service will include various hymns and service music, and choral anthems, including “This is the day” by John Rutter. Please be prepared to bring and wear your own choir robes or vestments. If you don’t have your own robe, please wear your “Sunday best.”
Please respond by June 1 by replying to this email (firstname.lastname@example.org) with your name, congregation, phone number, voice part (SATB) and rehearsal dates you can attend. We will accept singers on a first-come, first-served basis, also taking into account your availability for the rehearsals.
We hope that everyone who wants to participate will be able to do so, but we will have to limit the choir to approximately 100 people, and we need balance among the four parts.
I look forward to working with the consecration choir, and to providing the music for this very special occasion in the life of our diocese.
Thank you very much,
Music Director, Consecration 2017
