St Edmund's Episcopal Church San Marino

The Second Sunday After Pentecost, June 18th, 2017

As you may know, our SENS Search Committee has been working for some months to identify and interview prospective candidates for the position of Head of School at St. Edmund’s. The Chair of the Committee, Ms. Diane McCracken, and her excellent team, the Reverend Heather Blackstone, Ms. Lisa Cloud, Ms. Shigemi Pang, and Ms. Debra Spaulding dedicated countless hours toward developing the profile, reviewing resumes, conducting local and out of state interviews, and winnowing our candidate pool.
The SENS Search Committee presented me with a unanimous candidate recommendation with which I fully concur. It is with great pleasure that I announce that I have extended a call to Ms. Lizanne Westphal to become the Fourth Head of School at St. Edmund’s Episcopal Church, and that she has accepted this call with matching joy and eagerness for the work ahead.
Ms. Westphal holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with Management and Marketing emphasis, from USC, and pursued a successful career in management prior to joining the St. Edmund’s teaching staff in 2007. Many of you are well-acquainted with her as a member of our outstanding Nursery School staff.
While at St. Edmund’s, Ms. Westphal pursued Early Childhood Education classes (2007 – 2008), Early Childhood Administrative Courses (2012), and Early Childhood Administrative Courses (2014), at Citrus College and UCLA, Santa Monica. She is fully compliant with all Episcopal Church legal canons, and all California Title XXII regulations, required for Directors of Early Childhood education facilities.
Liz and Paul Westphal have been married 36 years and have three children, Jenny (married to Eric), Colleen (married to Chase), and Gary. All live locally, and there are four grandchildren and yet another on the way to anchor Liz and Paul in their “free time!”
St. Edmund’s Parish determined to offer a pre-school component to early childhood education efforts in 1957, and during this continuing mission, have been well-served by three long-term directors: Ms. Anneke Dankelman Zeylemaker (RIP 2012), Ms. Cathy Martinet, and Ms. Darlene Porter. I am convinced that we have selected the right individual to lead us forward in months and years ahead, and invite you to join me in offering warm welcome to the Fourth Head of School for St. Edmund’s Parish, Ms. Lizanne Marie Westphal.
